#16 A Special Sleep Meditation

Sleep is essential to our happiness, but all too often – it can be elusive. Instead of tossing and turning tonight, I invite you to try something new. This unique sleep meditation will guide you into a restful, peaceful sleep, so you can fall asleep and stay asleep, all night long.

Hey there,

Thanks for tuning in!

In this episode, I’m doing something a little different. I’ve created a special meditation to help you settle into a deep sleep.

Sleep is so essential to our happiness! Don’t you agree!?!

I know how frustrating it is to not be able to sleep. I’ve spent a lot of time experimenting with different tricks and techniques to get to sleep and stay asleep. Today, I’m sharing a special sleep meditation I originally made for my daughter. She was away on a trip and I wanted her to have a comforting voice to listen to when she was feeling homesick.

I’ve used it to fall asleep, as well, and thought you might enjoy it too!

Listen in today as I guide you through the process of preparing for rest and drifting into a peaceful, deep sleep – because we all know that restful nights lead to happier days.

As always, my goal is to make it quicker and easier for you to access more ease, joy, and intention in your life…because happy looks really, really good!

Enjoy the show!

EPISODE #16

A SPECIAL SLEEP MEDITATION

Welcome to the Style With Intention podcast, where we talk about how to use your personal style choices as a tool to create a life you love.

We believe choice is empowering, complacency is boring, and happy looks really, really good!

I’m your host, Annie Kip, and I’m so glad you’re here today!

Today, on the Style With Intention podcast, we’re doing something a little different. Today, I am going to share with you a sleep meditation that I’ve created.

I’ve listened to various meditations over the years to help me sleep and I decided to make my own with some of the elements from other meditations that I’ve found very effective.

In particular, I’m using some techniques that I learned from working with a hypnotherapist named, Christine Crowley. If anyone is interested in working with a hypnotherapist – I highly recommend Christine! I will link to her contact information in the show notes.

As I said, this is a meditation for you to use at bedtime. In episode 6, we talked about the importance of sleep and some of the frustrations we all face when we’re just trying to get a good night of sleep – so I hope you’ll find this meditation helpful in getting to sleep!

When you’re heading to bed tonight, just queue up this episode and I’ll give you a prompt to press pause and make your final preparations before bed. So, here we go…

At this time, I want you to prepare yourself for a deep, restful, renewing sleep.

Please feel free to pause this recording, right now, and go take care of anything that needs to be done. Let the dog out, Lock your doors. Brush your teeth. Set your alarm. Make sure your bed is ready for you to climb into, so you can immediately sink into total relaxation.

If you can, take a hot shower or hot bath, with some epsom salts and lavender. Try to have everything done and prepared ahead of time, so that you can go straight from your hot shower or bath directly into your bed, ready to close your eyes.

When you are ready, take the time you need to settle yourself into a comfortable position – lying down, preferably on your back, with your feet not touching and your hands by your sides.

As we begin, you will look all the way up to the ceiling with your eyes, rolling your eyeballs up, up, as high as they can go – almost as if you are trying to look through your own eyebrows.

Holding your eyes in this position, take a deep breath in …and then let it all the way out.

Again, still holding your eyes in this position, take another deep breath in…and then let it out.

Now one last time, with you eyes still looking through the backs of your eyebrows, take a deep breath in…and as you exhale, allow your eyelids to close over your eyes, while your eyeballs are still looking up.

Feel your eyelids, closed tight, locked down, almost like they are glued together.

And now, you can forget all about your eyeballs. Allow them to fall forward into a resting position and just notice the floating sensation come over you. You don’t have to make this happen, just allow it to build and bring you deeper and deeper.

I’d like you to imagine you are standing at the top of a flight of 10 stairs, looking down over the steps.  You can tip your chin down ever so slightly to really feel the sensation of standing over them.

As you take each step, I want you to feel, hear, and see your foot stepping onto each step.

And now, you feel, and see, and hear your foot stepping down onto Step 10.

Next, you effortlessly float down, stepping onto Step 9.

Feeling, seeing, and hearing your foot, you step down onto Step 8

Next, you drift and float down, stepping onto Step 7

Effortlessly feeling, seeing, and hearing your foot stepping down, you drift onto Step 6

Next, you will drift and float down, stepping onto Step 5

Feeling, seeing, and hearing your foot stepping down, you drift onto Step 4

Next, you drift and float down, stepping onto Step 3

Feeling, seeing, and hearing your foot stepping down, you drift onto Step 2

And then deeper onto Step 1

At the bottom of the stairs, you find yourself in warm, beautiful, grassy, wide open field.

The sun is warming the soft ground and you feel it shining on you.  First, you feel the warmth on your cheeks, and then on your head, and then your shoulders.

And with that warm, gentle awareness of yourself, you realize that you’ve been carrying a pack on your back. You realize it’s very heavy on your shoulders. So, take it off, strap by strap, you shrug it off and drop it to the ground.

What a relief for your neck, and your shoulders to release the weight of that heavy backpack and your whole body feel light and  walking is as effortless as floating.

You follow the path you see ahead of you, leading to a small river, gently floating by.

A boat is at the shore, and you see that it has been prepared just for you – it’s just your size, and it’s just filled with comfortable pillows and soft throws and furs and blankets.

You step into the little boat and lie down, snuggling into the soft, warm comfort and the boat gently leaves the shore.

You’re lying down and watching the clouds in the sky drift by as you feel the slow, gentle current easily moving your little boat along the river. Your boat drifts easily down the river, as if it knows just where to go. So naturally and easily, your boat gently follows the twists and turns of the river through the canyon, past forests, and rocks, and you can feel that you belong here, and you can almost hear the canyon is whispering your name and welcoming you home.

You’ve come into a deep communion with yourself – where your deepest knowing is as vast and expansive as the sky above you, as the deep forest, and even the steep walls of rock around you.

You gently, drape your arm over the side of the boat and you let your fingers trail in the soft water – and you realize that you can’t tell where your fingers end and the water begins. It’s both around you and inside of you and a part of you.

You become aware that this vastness is all around you but it’s also within you. This deep communion with yourself offers you everything you need. It is all is right here, within you, waiting for you, watching over you, protecting you. You are the precious one. This deep part of yourself knows and sees you fully, and loves you with a perfect, complete love that fills you up and overflows into the world.

You’ve come into your true home – where you are most completely yourself. And you can come back to this place, into this deep awareness of yourself at any time – for guidance and comfort and wisdom – or for anything else you might need.

You rest in this deep knowing that all is right and as it should be and that you are exactly where you need to be at this very moment.

And knowing that this, I will now count you back into consciousness, but if you choose to stay in this deeply, relaxing sleep, you will just ignore my counting.

1, you are becoming aware of your hands and feet,

2, your eyes are opening

3, 4, 5 you are fully conscious, and feel refreshed and renewed and awake.

Thanks for listening today! Sweet dreams!
